Key to Improved note taking may spur improved grades
A digital smartpen is a pen that electronically stores a complete audio recording of a lecture with integrated notes as you write them, and enables you to upload both to your computer, where you can save them, search through them, and share them.
A digital smartpen can save a college student hours and hours of time, on note taking, transcribing, organizing and searching. Digital smartpens are thus ideal study aids for college students.
An Essential Study Aid for Note Taking
Students are among the most rigorous note takers. For them, the challenges are taking complete notes, and keeping their notes organized, with content accessible. Most of all the challenge is not ending up with meaningless notes which are not the ones needed.
When students are academically challenged, suffering from learning difficulties, or English Language Learners unfamiliar with many of the words used in the lectures, the challenges only increase.
Many students miss lectures regularly because of illness, travel or because of student activities, another reason challenges may be maximized.
A Livescribe Echo smartpen can help a college student overcome these challenges by capturing a complete recording of every note and drawing taken with complete audio recording, integrated and synchronized, organized for retrieval and sharing.
Audio Replay Capability Spurs Understanding
The integrated voice function of the Livescribe Smartpen allows students to replay recorded audio at a slower or faster pace than the original recording so the student can study at the student's own pace, without missing a single word of a lecture or meeting.
A hearing impaired student can turn the volume up during replay. Foreign students who have trouble understanding or learning or disabled students can replay a passage multiple times for understanding.
Students who have trouble taking notes, foreign college students, and ESL students will also appreciate the advanced audio control features. Being able to replay audio at a slowed pace, skipping forward or back or pausing, enables them to better understand the lecture and overcome the unfamiliarity of the language.
Students can replay notes as often as they like. Moreover, they will catch every word, even if the lecturer speaks rapidly or with a regional accent. The student with an Echo Digital Smartpen will not miss a single word.
The same feature would be a great help for college students with learning difficulties, as it will allow them to study at the student's own pace. Students suffering from autism and Aspergers syndrome will find the pen particularly useful for their ability to manage repeating the lectures and explanation without relying on paying a tutor, which helps build their confidence.
All students can focus on understanding the content of the presentation, jotting keywords for search and drawings as needed.
Searching Notes for Replay
Students can jot down keywords or keyword phrases as they take notes. They can search recorded audio on the pen or the Livescribe Desktop by tapping on the notes taken at the time of recording. If the student has recorded keywords for searching content, the searching can be minimal. The keywords facilitate breaking down lectures into manageable chunks for retrieval.

.Upon purchasing a Livescribe smartpen, students get a free 500MB of virtual web space on the Livescribe Community web space. Pencasts on the Desktop can be regrouped as a Custom Notebook by dragging and dropping notes from multiple notebooks for later search and replay.
